Arndale Tower, Market Street, Manchester
Quite a landmark in the city, though not perhaps a much-loved one, more a barely-tolerated one. Along with the rest of the shopping centre, by Wilson & Womersley, 1972-80. It is clad in yellow tiles. I have happily lost the ability to dislike buildings like this, but if it went it would be no great loss. skyscrapernews.com reports that it is "metres away from the epicentre of the 1996 IRA bomb attack on Manchester. The tower sustained blast damage including the loss of most of the windows."

Inside the Arndale Centre
During the current coronavirus pandemic lockdown only a handful of businesses are open. At the Apple store a couple of people are being attended to by staff at the entrance and someone else appears to be waiting at some distance for their turn. All the other major stores, Victoria's Secret, Topman, Next and Disney are all closed for the foreseeable.

The Arndale Centre under lockdown
During the current coronavirus pandemic lockdown only a handful of businesses are open. Most of the people passing through are just using it as a thoroughfare to get from one side to the other.

Manchester Flower Show Platinum Jubilee Trail #1, The Crown
The Manchester Flower Show was an annual fixture in Platt Fields Park dating back to the 1950s and ran until 2003. Following a 15 year hiatus, it was resurrected and moved to the city centre as part of the King Street Festival in 2018, and as a standalone event in 2021 as the city emerged from the coronavirus lockdown. The 2022 show coincided with the 4-day national celebrations to mark HM Queen’s Platinum Jubilee; 10 professionally designed displays were created as a “Jubilee Trail” to mark the monarch’s 70 years on the throne. This huge, crown-shaped planter was placed inside the Arndale Centre, outside the Next store. It was designed by Decordia and filled with a colourful mix of tropical palms and English flowers.
