Droylsden: New Metrolink service
Droylsden is only a temporary terminus for the trams from Manchester, as shortly the service will be extended some 2.3 miled further east to Ashton. In this shot, car 3008 has reversed a few metres to the east of the Droylsden stop, ready to return to the platform for a trip westwards. The future route to Ashton is seen in the background.

Metrolink Tram Approaching Droylsden
Metrolink Bombardier tram number 3118 on Manchester Road, approaching the tram stop at Droylsden whilst on the service between Ashton and Eccles. Fortunately, it arrived before the storm hit so I was able to avoid the heavy rain which was following.

Droylsden Tram Station
Metrolink Bombardier tram number 3002 draws into the Droylsden tram stop ready for the return journey to Manchester Piccadilly and then on to Bury. The new (officially opened 11th February 2013) Droylsden Tram stop on Ashton Road, just to the east of Market Street, will operate as the temporary terminus for the Metrolink East Manchester Line Extension; a facing connection allows trams from the outbound platform to move forward and onto the inbound line to reverse and return towards Manchester. The East Manchester line will eventually run to Ashton-Under-Lyne. http://www.lrta.org/Manchester/ashton.html LRT Association "Metrolink - Manchester to Droylsden and Ashton-Under-Lyne" http://www.metrolink.co.uk/futuremetrolink/Pages/east-manchester-line.aspx Transport for Greater Manchester - Metrolink East Manchester Line

Ashton Road looking east, Droylsden
The tram lines along here form part of the Metrolink extension from the Droylsden stop to Ashton-under-Lyne. This section is not expected to open until probably 2014, although the overhead power lines have already been installed here. The traction posts have been painted an attractive shade of dark red. The tracks continue east along Ashton Road and then Droylsden Road for about half a mile to the Audenshaw tram stop. The rest of the route is planned to use alignments not shared with other traffic, and construction is well under way.
