Bee Hive Works, Droylsden
Although looking like a typical textile mill, this was in fact built by the Co-operative Wholesale Society for the manufacture of so-called "Grocers' Sundries", the site having previously been shown as a sauce and pickle works. The beehive was the emblem of the Co-operative movement. See also http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3591885 and http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3591886 .

Bee Hive Works office block
The inscription reads 'Cooperative Sundries Manufacturing Society Ltd'. Exactly what 'Sundries' are is not clear, but the earlier works on the site are labelled on OS maps as 'Sauce and Pickle Works'. Note the beehive carving in the central pediment, the symbol of the Co-operative movement. See http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3591884 and http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3591886 .
