Droylsden War Memorial (south face)
Droylsden’s War Memorial was dedicated on 15th January 1921. It is situated on a small traffic island in Cemetery Road, close to Droylsden Cemetery. The memorial is in the form of a tall, triangular edifice, standing on a three-sided base. The memorial is approximately 25ft in height and there is a cross carved into top section of the column with vertical slits beneath its arms.
The southern face of the memorial carries the simple inscription “REMEMBRANCE” whilst the northern side has the dates 1918 and 1914 either side of a new section added near the base with the following inscription:
IN PROUD MEMORY OF
THE MEN AND WOMEN
OF THIS TOWN
WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES AT
THE CALL OF THEIR COUNTRY
IN THE YEARS SINCE 1945
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM

In the United Kingdom, Remembrance Sunday is held on the Sunday nearest to 11 November; Armistice Day, the anniversary of the end of hostilities in the First World War at 11 am in 1918.
Droylsden’s War Memorial was dedicated on 15th January 1921. It is situated on a small traffic island in Cemetery Road, close to Droylsden Cemetery. The memorial is in the form of a tall, triangular edifice, standing on a three-sided base.
