Charles Hindley's House, Fairfield Square
This late eighteenth century house in Fairfield Square is a Grade II listed building (Historic England List Entry Number:1163732 http://www.heritagegateway.org.uk/Gateway/Results_Single.aspx?uid=1163732&resourceID=5 Heritage Gateway).
The blue plaque reads:
"CHARLES HINDLEY 1796-1857
Charles Hindley was born into a Moravian mill owning family and became active in the movement for factory reform, particularly the reduction of the working day. He was MP for Ashton from 1835 until his death”

Fairfield Moravian Settlement, Sisters' Street
It was a feature of Moravian settlement life in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries that members were grouped into three choirs (ie communities): married; single brothers; and single sisters. The single brethren would occupy shared accommodation and also work together within the settlement as would the single sisters in their house. (see also Image])
