Respect My Existence or Expect My Resistance
The "Respect Existence or Expect Resistance" slogan appears to have arisen during the American civil rights protest movement during the 1960s and 70s (https://colormagazine.com/respect-existence-expect-resistance/ Color Magazine 15 Jun 2017) and has since been used regularly by differing protest groups. It represents the sentiment that “you should respect the humans around you and treat them fairly or you should not be surprised when people resist and revolt against you”. This mural, on a wall in Back Turner Street, was created in 2019 by Nomad Clan for Dr. Martens, the English footwear and clothing company https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr._Martens .
