Davyhulme Millennium Nature Reserve
Davyhulme Millennium Nature Reserve is a reclaimed area of land on the western bank of the Manchester Ship Canal. The area was the site of the former Davyhulme Wastewater Treatment Works from 1894 until it closed. It was opened as a nature reserve in 1999. It now provides a mixed landscape of wetland, woods, water features & open land and is a designated Site of Biological Importance. This is the smaller of the two ponds/lakes.

This now wooded part of the sprawling Davyhulme sewage works complex by the Manchester Ship Canal was closed and converted to a nature reserve in 2000. This was as a direct result of a 1998 European Community Directive which prohibited the dumping of sewage sludge at sea.
