Collyhurst Comb, Church of the Saviour
Bee#96 on the "Bee in the City" sculpture trail is "Collyhurst Comb" with a design that centres around the city's skyline and its radical history. It is set in front of the Church of the Saviour which was founded in 1972 when all the Church of England churches in Collyhurst and Monsall were amalgamated into a new benefice of the Church of the Saviour. The church was established on part of the site formerly occupied by St Oswald's Church on Rochdale Road. This is an evangelical Church of England church.

Entrance to Sandhills
Much of the red sandstone used for building in Manchester and the surrounding area, came from Collyhurst Quarry. The stone was transported the short distance into Manchester via the nearby River Irk on barges or rafts. The quarry is now disused and the area around it has been turned into a park called "Sandhills" http://www.irkvalley.info/sites/sandhills/siteinfo.html as part of Manchester City Council's Irk Valley Project http://www.manchester.gov.uk/site/scripts/services_info.php?serviceID=2172 . This view shows the entrance off Rochdale Road/Eggington Street. See also Image] which shows similar gates off Collyhurst Road/Fitzgeorge Street.
