Memorial Plaque
This memorial is set into the wall of the former Salford Royal Hospital, which has been redeveloped as an apartment block. It details the names of fourteen nurses at the hospital who died during a German air-raid in June 1941.

Nurses Memorial, Salford Royal Hospital Building
The hospital sustained a direct hit in a Luftwaffe bombing raid in 1941, in which fourteen nurses lost their lives. This plaque on the Chapel Street side of the building was unveiled in 1944 by the Duchess of Kent as a memorial. It reads: THIS PANEL RECORDS THE NAMES OF FOUTEEN NURSES WHO LOST THEIR LIVES AT THE HOSPITAL DURING AN AIR RAID JUNE 2nd 1941 FOURTEEN BEDS HAVE BEEN ENDOWED IN PERPETUITY TO COMMEMORATE THEIR DEVOTION TO DUTY SISTER DORIS PRESTON CHEADLE CHES STAFF NURSES VERA CREIGHTON COROFIN EDITH HASLAM BURY MAUREEN LYNCH ENNIS PROBATIONERS BRIDGET LEONARD ATHLONE MARGARET LOWERY ST HELENS PHILOMENA McCROSSAN STRABANE ROSE MOFFATT ST HELENS HELEN SHERIDAN ST HELENS PRELIMINARY TRAINING SCHOOL DOROTHY BURSLEM STACKSTEADS ELSIE OKELE BUCKLEY MARTHA STOTT MIDDLETON DORIS TYSON ULVERSTON THIS PANEL WAS UNVEILED BY H.R.H.
