Manchester Central station 1980
Taken from the approach viaduct to the GNR goods warehouse, the run-down nature of lower Deansgate by 1980 is readily apparent. This is now an uber-trendy part of Manchester. Alas, no London expresses will ever again grace the arch and ridged canopies of Central station.

Manchester Central railway station (site), 1983
Opened in 1880 by the Cheshire Lines Committee as the Manchester terminus for its lines in Lancashire and Cheshire, this station closed in 1969. When this image was taken, it was derelict. It has a new lease of life as an exhibition centre.
