Denton Station
The view from the side of the Denton railway bridge Image showing the station with industrial units in the background. Despite a catchment area of half a million it has the worst service in the country. Image More information at http://ackworthborn.blogspot.com/2008/05/sky-watch-friday-beyond-once-week.html

Denton railway station, Greater Manchester
Opened in 1851 by the London & North Western Railway on the line from Stockport to Stalybridge, the station once had two island platforms and four tracks. View north east towards Guide Bridge and Stalybridge. At the time this image was taken, the station had become famous for having the least frequent train service in the UK- the ‘ghost train’- in one direction, once per week only.

Denton Station
The station only sees one passenger train a week from Stockport to Stalybridge. Image This is not a goods train passing Denton station but a track cleaning train. They are common across the rail network in the late summer and autumn months. They keep the tracks clear of fallen leaves during the leaf-prone months. My thanks to Thomas Nugent who photographed one in Wemyss Bay Image for spotting it.
