Old Peg
The Angel Inn Image, as it was previously called, is reputedly the second oldest building in Denton and was first licensed in 1597. From 1818 with the opening of the turnpike between Manchester and Hyde it became a coaching inn. At the turn of the 19th century it was owned by the Openshaw Brewery who were later taken over by Bass. It was significantly renovated in 1971. In 2019 it lost its license due to incidents requiring police intervention. It is now owned by the EI Group and managed by the Craft Union Pub Company. It has re-opened under the name "Old Peg" after the nickname given to Denton's oldest building, St Lawrence's Church https://www.geograph.org.uk/snippet/14475 as depicted on the sign Image

Premises on Hyde Road, Denton
Behind the bus stop is the Oriental Chef Chinese takeaway. In June 2009 (Streetview archive imagery) on the left was a sandwich shop called Munches & Lunches and to the left of that was the offices of Denton Car and Van Hire. The latter had closed by August and been converted into residential property like the former shop at the end of the terrace. Munches & Lunches subsequently become first Food Station and then The Angel Slice and lastly Grays Sandwich Bar. Now finally it too has been converted to residential purposes. Newly opened on the right is Curly and Blowdrys.
