Plain pillar monument
At the start of Barkers Lane off Ashton Lane. It is inscribed 'erected by William Cunliffe Brookes'. I have not been able to find out any history behind this monument.

St Martin's School, Ashton upon Mersey
The former school building, at the junction of Green Lane and Carrington Lane, was once the village school. The clock tower was erected in 1874 but the school itself originally dates from 1818.

Ashton Lane
This picture taken looking east from SJ781922 along the B5165 Ashton Lane. We think the building in the centre is an old gate house.

The Gatehouse, Ashton Lane, Sale
Currently for sale, as the board indicates, and according to the details it dates from 1835. I assume this was the gatehouse to the now vanished Ashton Lodge. Lovely bargeboards.
