Mooring anyone?
New houses near the Kelloggs factory at Trafford Park overlook a series of moorings in a previous wharf. Each house is probably sold with its own mooring, but no-one uses them. Part of the problem is that most boats along this canal are narrowboats (long and thin) and the pontoons are designed for cruisers (short and fat).
