Barton High Level Bridge
This bridge carries the M60 over the Manchester Ship Canal. The foundations for this bridge contain the oldest material on the UK Motorway network, as preparation for the bridge began before the construction of the first Motorway (the Preston Bypass). During its life (it opened in 1960) the road it carries has been known as the Eccles Bypass, M62, M63 and now the M60.
