Eccles has some lovely early C20th pubs and this might be the pick of the bunch. Red brick and copious terracotta dressings (Image]). By Hartley Hacking & Co., 1904, for Holt's. Grade II listed.

Library, Church Street, Eccles
A very expressive and flamboyant Carnegie library by Edward Potts, 1907, overflowing with carved detail in stone. Mildly incongruous domed tower on the right, but it's all great fun. Grade II listed.
