Old Bank Chambers, St Ann's Square, Manchester
Built for Manchester Liners, c1925, by Harry S. Fairhurst. Portland stone, with a relief sculpture at the corner depicting a ship.

17-23 St Ann's Square, Manchester
Late C19th shops/offices (as it still is) with an arcade of large windows and plenty of "ornate plasterwork deocoration, which has been extensively replaced by fibreglass." It has gilt cartouches on the ground floor, gilt roundels on the first floor, gilt swags on the second floor, and gilt wreaths on the third floor. So, no skimping on the gilt. Grade II listed.
The bronze statue on the right depicts Richard Cobden. It is by Marshall Wood, 1867. Cobden was a Manchester alderman, eminent industrialist and political thinker, perhaps best remembered for his campaigning against the Corn Laws. Grade II listed.
