St Ann's Square, Christmas Markets
The Christmas markets first arrived in Manchester in 1998, when the council of Frankfurt hosted a small traditional German market of just 17 stalls in St Ann’s Square.
Now an annual event, the 2011 Christmas Market has an array of over 200 stalls spread across Albert Square, Brazenose Street, King Street, St Ann's Square, New Cathedral Street, Exchange Square and Piccadilly operating from 17th November to 21st December.

Sea of Flowers at St Ann's Square
In the days following the Manchester bomb attack on 22nd May https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_Manchester_Arena_bombing , members of the public began leaving floral tributes, first at Albert Square and then at St Ann's Square. By the time this photograph was taken, St Ann's Square was almost completely covered with flowers, balloons, soft toys, scarves and other messages. This photo shows only the southern half of the square; it would have been impossible to get a photo of the complete square without going aerial.

St Ann's Square, Manchester
The pedestrianised square in the heart of Manchester's shopping offer is a conservation area and home to the Grade I-listed St Ann's Church and the Royal Exchange Theatre. It was home to the Manchester Cotton Exchange (now the Exchange Theatre) for more than two centuries and is now one of the main spots for Manchester markets.
The statue of Richard Cobden, in front of the church, is by Marshall Wood. It dates from 1867.
