55 King Street, Manchester
Granite-clad offices for the District Bank, 1966-69, by Casson, Conder & Partners. Like its neighbour (Image]) it is an original take on the 1960s office block. Curiously shaped with two almost-regular octagons at either end joined by a lateral block which is recessed above the ground floor. In plan it resembles the handheld control for a video game. Its impressive banking hall was lost in conversion to shops in 2000.
