Phoenix House, Cross Street, Manchester
Smooth and plush, all Portland stone in a style usually described as stripped Classical, i.e. with few details. Above the balcony at the canted corner is a bird, presumably a phoenix, and so perhaps a reference to the original customer. Probably dating from between the wars.
