Metrolink Second City Crossing, Albert Square
After three years of construction work, the final section of the Metrolink Second City Crossing through Manchester City Centre was opened to passengers on Sunday, 26 February 2017. Here, Metrolink Bombardier tram number 3083 travels along the northern edge of Albert Square at it turns into Princess Street from Cross Street on the Rochdale to East Didsbury route.

Northern Assurance Building, Manchester
The Northern Assurance Building designed by Waddington and Dunkerley in 1902 is at the northern end of Albert Square, on Princess Street.
Attributed to the architects Waddington and Dunkerley in 1902 this Flemish style building with Dutch gables is clad in Portland stone and grey granite. Manchester Law Library, Kennedy Street, Manchester
Particularly ornate Venetian Gothic, laden with tracery, and a central oriel. By Thomas Hartas, 1884-85. Grade II* listed.
It still houses the library, one of the UK's oldest, founded in 1820. The offices above were to let.
