A most attractive example of Venetian Gothic, in a lovely combination of red brick and pale stone. Ornate arcades of windows and door framed by broad arches. By Clegg & Knowles, 1868. Grade II listed.

M2 130. Royal Mail list this box as 'Booth Street D'. It was cast by A Handyside who made many pillar boxes before 1931.

Anonymous Postbox (M2 130)
The cylindrical design of pillar boxes arrived in 1879. The early boxes had no royal cipher and are known as 'anonymous' boxes. This oversight was corrected from 1887 so this postbox on Fountain Street Image must date from that period.

Built as a warehouse by Alfred Waterhouse, 1881-83. What stands out are the octagonal turrets and the ground-floor arcade. Grade II listed.

Brook House, Spring Gardens, Manchester
On the corner of Fountain Street. Relatively unassuming, but designed by one of Manchester's Victorian maestros, Edward Walters, 1851. Brick with stone dressings, rustication, and touches of decoration around the windows. The banners advertise office suites on "flexible lease terms" and from 900 square feet to 3,000 square feet.
