Long Street Methodist Church, Middleton
Compared to many Victorian churches, there is very little decoration in this church (early photographs show plain linoleum used on the floor). The internal styling is plain, simple and modern with the same stripy red sandstone and subtle header bond brickwork found outside. All the windows have plain leaded glass, so pure white light illuminates the church.

Long Street Methodist Church, Font and Lectern

Long Street Methodist Church, The "Angel" Pulpit
Compared to many Victorian churches, there is very little decoration in this church. The internal styling is plain and simple. The little decoration that Edgar Wood used is to a very high standard and is reserved for important positions such as the pulpit, the lectern, and the font. This photograph shows the roses and angel sculpture on the pulpit. The angel is the work of sculptor Thomas Stirling Lee who was also responsible for eight of the twelve relief panels on the exterior walls of the famous St George’s Hall in Liverpool.
