Middleton Junction railway station (site), Greater Manchester
Opened in 1842 as "Middleton" by the Manchester & Leeds Railway, soon to become part of the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway, this station's name changed to "Middleton Junction" in 1852. It closed in 1966 and was demolished, the site now being partially used by industrial units. View south towards Moston and Manchester from approximately the end of the main line platforms. The branch line to Chadderton and Oldham (1842-1988) curved sharply away from the main line and had its own curved platforms, the former junction being near the trees in the middle distance. The branch line to Middleton (1857-1965) curved to the west immediately behind the camera position. (Taken with permission).
