Old Boundary Marker on the A664 between Blackley and Middleton
Municipal Boundary Marker on the verge on the southeast side of the junction of the A664 and Mossway, between Blackley and Middleton in Manchester, north of Junction 20 on the M60. Inscribed BS / BLACKLEY / RS DISTRICT / 1879 on the south side and BS / MIDDLETON / AND / TONGE / RS DISTRICT / 1879 on the north side. Old Ordnance Survey maps show the boundary stone sited about 50 metres south of its current location. I can find no record of Blackley Rural Sanitary District, only that Backley parish was part of Prestwich Rural Sanitary District from 1875 to 1890.
