St Georges House, Peter Street
Built in 1911 for the Y.M.C.A in brown and buff Burmantoft terracotta similar in style to the Y.M.C.A in Brooklyn New York of 1885 incorporating gymnasium with oval running track round it and swimming bath plus other sporting facilities needless to say all this has been ripped out and is now used as offices.

St George's House, Peter Street, Manchester
A big block of brown and buff Burmantofts terracotta. It resembles a confection with a rich chocolate base. The Kahn system for construction was used - underneath is reinforced concrete, so there the resemblance ends. There are irregular projections and recessions to the main front. Built 1907-11 by Woodhouse, Corbett & Dean. Grade II listed. It was built as a YMCA, complete with gymnasium, running track, and top-floor swimming pool, all of which were sadly obliterated on conversion to offices in the 1990s.

St George's House, Peter Street
The imposing St. George's House, covered in brown and buff terracotta, was built in 1911 on Peter Street. Today the former YMCA building, and more recently, the head office of Direct Line Insurance, is a modern office complex. The eight-storey building is also home to Pizza Express and Bet Fred. If you look carefully, you will see a statue of St George above the doorway.

Welcome to Manchester - Access Restricted
Security turnstiles and barrier erected across the Mount Street approach to Image], where the Conservative Party conference was being held. The "Welcome to Manchester" banner seems a little incongruous, most visitors to the city receive a friendlier welcome!.
