49 Spring Gardens, Manchester
Another excellent warehouse by Clegg & Knowles, 1879. "A disciplined and satisfying composition in stone", thought Pevsner. It has a very ornate frieze underlining the decorative dormers and chimneys. Grade II listed.

57 Spring Gardens, Manchester
A striking effort by Harry S. Fairhurst & Son, 1975, built as the second extension of (originally) the Manchester and Salford Bank (original building here: Image]). Pevsner remarks that its "simply treated openings palely follow the C19 rhythms." Now offices to let.

46 Fountain Street, Manchester
The best building on the street, according to Pevsner. Built as Overseers' and Churchwardens' offices in 1852 by Thomas Worthington, who also added the top two floors in 1858. The windows vary from flat-arched to pedimented to arcaded and, at the top, oeil-de-boeuf. Grade II* listed. It is now offices.

Brook House, Spring Gardens, Manchester
On the corner of Fountain Street. Relatively unassuming, but designed by one of Manchester's Victorian maestros, Edward Walters, 1851. Brick with stone dressings, rustication, and touches of decoration around the windows. The banners advertise office suites on "flexible lease terms" and from 900 square feet to 3,000 square feet.

Mosley Street
Used by trams (as seen!) and buses. Quite a busy area since the street is very close to the city centre. This particular tram is heading to Eccles.
