Church yard and lych gate, Chorlton Green
The original parish church of St Clement stood here until its demolition in 1940. A new church had been built some distance away in the 1860s, to accommodate Chorltons rising population. The move to the new site was resisted by many parishioners, including banker William Cunliffe Brooks who paid for the construction of the unique lych-gate, a well known Chorlton landmark. Today the old church yard is a public garden, and convenient cut through between Chorlton Green and the Bowling Green pub.

Lychgate
Looking towards Chorlton Green. The old churchyard has a grave marker connected to a shooting at The Seymour public house in Old Trafford in which a local policeman was killed in the line of duty.

The green is in the old village of Chorlton. It is away from the main roads and is consequently a bit quieter than the rows of shops and trendy cafes.
