The sky all a-glow
I was taken with the light over the Northwest, which seemed to match the building. The former "Service block" has been demolished and a car park is being built in its place, at Siemens' Manchester headquarters

William Siemens House, Nell Lane, Manchester
By MBLC, 1989-90. "Spectacular from afar ... but less appealing close up with its mechanically flush white powder-coated aluminium panels" was Pevsner's verdict. I rather like it, it's certainly a cut above most buildings of the period (or since). Siemens is still here.

Construction materials
I ham unsure what these black plastic things are properly called - the labourers were calling them "beer crates". They are used in the sandy subsoil, interlocked with clips, to provide some sort of structure beneath the paved areas of the new car parks around this building. I believe they might be what is known as Attenuation cells, (also known as Storm Cells, Soakaway Modules, and Storm Crates), designed to form a soakaway.
