Oxford Street
The A34 out of Manchester from the corner of Whitworth Street West. On the left is the grade II listed https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1271429 former Refuge Assurance Building built by Alfred Waterhouse in 1891. The insurance company moved out in 1987 and the building lay empty until 1996 when it was converted into the Palace Hotel until being rebranded in 2016 as Principal Manchester. https://www.phcompany.com/principal/manchester-hotel/ The bridge just beyond carries the railway line from Piccadilly to Oxford Road Station. This is the point where Oxford Street becomes Oxford Road.

Manchester's rubbish
Well, some of it at least. This collection of unwanted containers has been trapped near lock 88 on the Rochdale Canal. It certainly puts the multi-million pounds city centre waterside regeneration investment into some sort of perspective.

Windows of Creativity, Shelagh Delaney
This portrait, by mosaicist Mary Goodwin http://www.marygoodwinmosaics.co.uk/ , is at the centre of a piece (Image]) displayed at the entrance to the Kimpton Clocktower Hotel on Oxford Road as part of the “50 Windows of Creativity” art trail. The title for the work is “Do you Know Who I Am?” and it is described as “a triptych of historical Mancunians (famous by name, less famous by face)”. We are not told who they are but an internet search turned up this photo of Shelagh Delaney https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/theatre-dance/news/revenge-sweet-salford-taste-honey-playwright-shelagh-delaney-9466910.html in the Independent. Delaney was born and brought up in Salford so is not strictly a Mancunian by birth but if you stretch the definition of Mancunian to include “…. associated with Manchester” then the adjective probably fits. Born in 1938, she died in 2011. She is most famous for her debut work, “A Taste of Honey” which was first performed in 1958 and adapted as a film in 1961.
