Entering Manchester on Upper Brook Street, 1966
View NW, towards the City centre. According to Keith Potter and Gerald England I was heading towards the then-pioneering 'tidal flow' system had been recently introduced at the junction with Grosvenor Street about 500 yards ahead. I was at about Brunswick Street and was passing on the left the site of the Manchester University buildings since erected there.

King's Church, Manchester
A large and lively independent church. It's current slogan is "Making Jesus famous", but I think he is quite famous already.

Mabel Tylecote Building, Cavendish Street, Manchester
Quite an interesting building composed of the interlocking cubic forms much beloved of Modernists. Brown brick and concrete ribs under an oversailing top storey of exposed concrete. Built 1973 by the City Architect's Department.
It was built as an adult education college, and is now used by Manchester Metropolitan University's Drama Department and houses the Capitol Theatre.

Former Town Hall, Cavendish Street, Manchester
With a majestic portico of four fluted Greek Doric columns surmounted by a pediment. By Richard Lane, 1830-31. Grade II listed.
Built as the Chorlton-on-Medlock Town Hall and Dispensary, in 1970 everything behind the facade was removed for a new building for Manchester Polytechnic, now Manchester Metropolitan University.
A plaque records that the building hosted the fifth Pan-African Conference in 1945, decisions at which "led to liberation of African counties".
In an all too familiar tale, it has not been sympathetically treated by recent redevelopment
