Welcoming Mosaic at St Chrysostom's Church (right)
Two new mosaics at the main door of St Chrysostom's Church Image were erected in 2014. Children from Year 6 (this year’s leavers) from both St Chrysostom’s and St John’s schools helped with the design and the construction of the mosaics, guided by Angie, a local mosaicist and community artist. Those helping were of different world faiths – it was an inter faith effort. https://stchrysostoms.wordpress.com/2014/07/11/welcoming-mosaics/ The mosaic, on the right hand side, emphasises things that unite us in our spiritual values – Love, Hope and Joy. The dove, a symbol used by the church and St Chrysostom's school, reminds us of the dove of peace in the story of Noah. The bees symbolise the industry of Manchester and are also a symbol of St John Chrysostom, Candles are a sign of hope and prayer and the roses and the hand and heart symbolise love for our homes and world.

Dove Carving at St Chrysostom's Church
In 2015 Ricky, a local wood carver, created a beautiful and unique carving of the dove symbol from the trunk of a tree outside St Chrysostom's Church Image that had to be cut down. The dove is a universal symbol of peace, and a sign of inclusion. For Christians the dove is also a sign of God’s care and love for all creation (from the story of Noah) as well as being a sign of the Holy Spirit of God. Much of the funding for the carving was provided by donations given in memory of Tommy (Thomas Moore) a local man who lived at the Victoria Nursing Home and who regularly came to Church on Sundays and during the week. Tommy loved to call by whenever he saw the church door open, and loved to chat to people, and take an interest in them. https://stchrysostoms.wordpress.com/2015/08/13/the-dove-on-our-church-corner/

Mosaic at St Chrysostom's Church (2)
One of two mosaics erected on the outside of St Chrysostom's Church Image in 2012. They were designed by the Year 6 children from the primary school. This one is inspired by the tree logo so dear to St John's school. The tree is used here to symbolise harmony and unity and growth. On the tree are symbols of world faiths, expressing a hope to live in harmony. There are also the Olympic rings, in the year of the London Olympics. They too symbolise a hope for peace. A candle is also on the tree, together with prayer ribbons. The children love lighting candles or tying ribbons to the tree when they come to church, as a sign of hope and prayer. The words, chosen by the children, express key words for living together: trust, friendship, happiness, belief. https://stchrysostoms.wordpress.com/2012/07/21/our-new-mosaics/
