Manchester One
Comprised of a 21 storey tower over a 2 storey podium, Manchester One is a high-rise office building on Portland Street. It was built as St. Andrew's House and, when completed in 1962, was one of the UK’s first high rise buildings. It was renamed Portland Tower in the 1990s. Commercial property developers Bruntwood renovated the building and subsequently renamed it “Manchester One" in November 2012 (http://www.bruntwood.co.uk/news/bruntwood-invest-over-pound2m-and-re-launch-portland-tower-as-manchester-one ). Although it is now dwarfed by the CIS and Beetham (Hilton) Towers, Manchester One is still one of Manchester's tallest buildings.

"Bee-YOU-ti-ful"
Part of the Bee in the City project, sponsored by Adoption Counts, executed by Lois Cordelia and sited outside Manchester One on Portland Street.
This Bee celebrates the power of adoption to transform a child's life into a world full of love, creativity, individuality and imagination. A pity about yet another excruciating pun.

Bee-YOU-ti-ful
Located on Portland Street this Bee was created by Lois Cordelia https://www.loiscordelia.com/ and sponsored by Adoption Counts.
"Adoption is life-changing – for adoptive parents as for children. This Bee celebrates the power of adoption to transform a child's life into a world full of love, creativity, individuality and imagination. Coco Chanel once wrote: 'Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself'. Even the word 'beautiful' contains its own instruction: 'Bee-YOU-ti-ful'. Follow your heart, make a bee-line for the things you love – just like a bee flies to nectar."
"Adoption Counts http://adoptioncounts.org.uk/ is a collaborative adoption agency, bringing together the specialist skills of five local authorities from across Greater Manchester and Cheshire to deliver adoption services of the highest quality. Adoption is life changing and they aim for excellence in all that they do to ensure that families and children are happy and empowered throughout their adoption journey."

The 'Plantin' typeface is not often seen as architectural lettering. This is a refreshing change from corporate 'Helvetica Bold', the excellent 'Verdana' and horrible 'Arial'. Plantin's robust letterforms work well. The chunky triangular upper serifs to n, h and r are characteristic.
