Arthur House, Chorlton Street, Manchester
A white concrete building in Manchester? It has to be the work of Cruickshank & Seward. This was built in 1962. Miraculously, the concrete has not been painted over or clad in primary-coloured panels. There are textured effects on the near sections created by thin vertical indentations, apparently randomly spaced.
Note the playful bit of modern art on the left - two metal stick-men climbing the building under the watchful gaze of a third resting his laurels at the top. I say men, but neuter would be more accurate.
As ever, office space to let at the time of the photo.

Britannia Hotel, Portland Street, Manchester
This was built in 1854 as a textile warehouse and showroom for S & J Watts and is now a luxury hotel. Each floor has a different architectural treatment and it is surmounted by four pavilions lit by gothic rose windows. The rear was not for show and is in plain brick.
