Where the University of Manchester's students can attend debates, concerts, get something to eat, but mostly drink in one of the cheap bars. It looks as if it might date from the 1950s. The projecting centre is emphasised by thin vertical fins, possibly intended to evoke a Classical portico.

A clutch of early-C19th survivals huddled together in the face of the university's post-war onslaught. These are either occupied by the university or catering for its users - Natwest, Kro Bar, and the International Society. Grade II listed.
