A clutch of early-C19th survivals huddled together in the face of the university's post-war onslaught. These are either occupied by the university or catering for its users - Natwest, Kro Bar, and the International Society. Grade II listed.

Former church hall, Portsmouth Street, Manchester
Built as an accompaniment to Holy Name of Jesus (Image]) by Edmund Kirby, 1892. Impressive chimneystacks. All in a deep red brick, and while it appears to have terracotta trim, built of nothing else, according to Pevsner, which makes it a fine display of brickwork. Hard to fathom why it isn't listed.
Now the Jabez Clegg "beer hall, bar and restaurant", quenching the thirst of University of Manchester students.
