MGS - war memorial
The statue and the stained glass above are in the school's main assembly hall and are flanked at lower level by the school's WWI roll of honour.

MGS - the Memorial Hall from the outside
The school's main assembly and concert hall occupies the north side of the main range of buildings, and is so called as it includes the first world war memorial. To pupils it is just the 'Mem Hall'.

MGS - statue of Hugh Oldham
A bronze statue in the main quadrangle of the school's founder, restored in 2015 to mark the school's quincentenary. His more elaborate tomb is in Exeter Cathedral Image

MGS - weathervane
The weathervane takes the form of a master with a birch chasing a pupil, whom of course he never reaches as the vane swings in the wind.

MGS - the Memorial Hall
Set out on this occasion for a reunion dinner. The chamber organ in the background is new since I was a pupil many years ago.

MGS - inner entrance
The principal entrance to the original school building is on the north side of the main quadrangle. The addition of the school motto above the doors (sapere aude - 'dare to be wise') dates from the 2015 quincentenary celebrations, and it is flanked by names of individual and corporate benefactors.

MGS - swimming pool notice
The school was built with a 25-yard swimming pool, probably quite an innovation in its time, but archaic now. The notice has been there since I was a boy, if not longer.

MGS - corridor
Apart from the addition of lockers, the 'maths corridor' (as it still is) is just as I remember it from the 1970s. The terrazzo flooring is distinctive of its time (early 1930s) and found in many public buildings, pubs etc. of the period.
