Anyone Who Has a Heart
According to Axis https://www.axisweb.org/p/andrewsmall/workset/36457-anyone-who-has-a-heart/ Anyone Who Has a Heart' is a light sculpture that displays your heart rate. It is a landmark and signature artwork for the Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and was installed in 2011 near
the entrance to the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. Walking around the sculpture triggers sensors and changes the light display. Holding onto the stainless steel hand grips monitors your heart rate and translates that into a red light display synchronised with your pulse. It can also tell you the time as every hour the sculpture turns into a clock. The sequence is explained on floor panels along with information about the heart rate of a range of animals.
It was commissioned by Lime in collaboration with the Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, made by Andrew Small and Steve Almond https://www.coroflot.com/stevenalmond/anyone-who-has-a-heart funded through a special arts programme allocation from the hospital's Charitable Funds.

Central Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust Campus
The space in the foreground is outside the entrance to Manchester Children's Hospital.
The Citylabs 2.0 building in the background was completed in 2020. Formerly the site of MRI and St Mary's, these have all been completely rebuilt. In a sequence are the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, St Mary's, the Eye Hospital and MRI.

Central Manchester University Hospitals, St Mary's Hospital
The newly-rebuilt Manchester Royal Infirmary, Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, St Mary's Hospital and Royal Manchester Children's Hospital share this large site between Oxford Road and Upper Brook Street in Manchester, close to the Manchester Medical School (part of the University of Manchester) and Manchester Metropolitan University.
The original Saint Mary's Hospital was founded in 1790 and over the years has successfully developed a wide range of world class services for women, babies and children. The new Saint Mary's Hospital building opened in July 2009.
