The Lord Nelson (1), 88 Newton Street
A late Victorian pub, originally The Lord Nelson Hotel, and with the date 1895 above the entrance door. It is located just off Great Ancoats Street, on the corner of Newton Street and Houldsworth Street. It is perhaps surprising it has survived, when so much else has gone from around here, and more seems likely to disappear too. Manchester is mushrooming so fast, it is in danger of forgetting its past.
