77-83 Piccadilly, Manchester
By Clegg & Knowles, 1877. "Conventional eclecticism up to the eaves, but then the architects suddenly go in a completely different direction - unless we are looking at later additions", wrote Pevsner. The masons certainly had a field day with all manner of carvings (Image], Image]), before the carpenters/joiners had their turn on the gable and turret. The colour scheme also jumps out at the viewer, but this may well not be original. Grade II listed.
