Crowcroft Park
According to Manchester City Council (web link now dead) "Crowcroft Park is a true community park ... used for dog walking, children's recreational play, sports, community events, educational activities, bowling and hosting live music. The park has a strong and active Friends of Group who support community events and actively campaign for improvements in the park. In 2008, Crowcroft Park was awarded a Green Flag Award for achieving the national standard for parks and green spaces. Opened in 1900, Crowcroft Park was one of Manchester early parks and was the quintessential Victorian Park with well laid out flower beds, elaborate bandstand, pretty flower borders and abundance of cricket and football, pitches. The park was originally created for recreational purposes for the young residents of the neighbourhood, and in response to the growing need to preserve land for leisure and recreation." It also says that prior to 2001 it was a park in decline, which might explain the police notice on the entrance warning users to mind their valuables and avoid using mobile phones within the park! Much excellent information about the history of the park can be found on the Manchester History website: http://manchesterhistory.net/LONGSIGHT/PARKS/crowcroft.html

Bee Unique
This Bee was created by Qubek and sponsored by Longsight Buzz. "Qubek is a graffiti artist whose iconic bee mural can be seen in Manchester's Northern Quarter. Children from Stanley Grove Primary Academy were asked to think about what makes them, and Longsight, unique. The artist used their drawings as his inspiration and produced a design bursting with colour. The humble bee and the planet, the world and the many communities living here side by side, embracing their ever-changing world. Unique." "Longsight Buzz represents the wonderful coalition of schoolchildren, residents, housing associations, councillors and community groups whose efforts brought this Bee to Longsight. The generous support of the Bangladeshi Women’s Organisation, Waddle Taylor Bryan, Royal Travel and the Mazaa restaurant are gratefully acknowledged." The Bee was originally located here in July 2018 Image It was removed for display with all the other Bees to the National Cycling Centre. It was then returned here for permanent display in the park.
