Railway Depot, Longsight
London Midland and Scottish Railway Stanier Class 5 4-6-0
842 of these wonderful examples of British engineering were built between 1934 and 1951. By 1968 all gone from British rails, but for 18 saved for preservation. 5305 was sold for scrap to Albert Drapers and Sons Ltd., but was restored and steamed again in 1976. 5305 was active on the West Highland Line, but was taken out of service from 1994 until 2003. Since then the locomotive has been at the Great Central Railway and was receiving repairs in 2007 and remains the property of Albert Drapers and Son Ltd., but looked after by the 5305 Locomotive Association.
There was an Open Day at the Longsight Depot on this day. The depot still remains, but Longsight Station has long gone.
