Manchester, Newton Street Post and Sorting Office
A large, mainly Edwardian building which dates from 1909 and occupies a large plot of land between Faraday Street and Houldsworth Street incorporating a large sorting office annexe (1965-8) on the Lever Street side (at the back as we look at this photograph).
Today the major part of the building has been converted into a residential complex known as The Sorting House and it features a Japanese style communal area. Until recently the Faraday Street end of the building (nearest to the camera) was still used as a Crown Post Office but that is now also closed with a notice inside the doorway proclaiming that “the Post Office has moved to Piccadilly Gardens”.

40 Lever Street, Manchester
Large, long office block with windows between bands of aggregate-clad concrete. On the facing section, to the left of the red-brick building, are some modish geometric patterns. The central glass projection is later.
It currently goes by the name of Griffin House.
