Ashton New Road, Clayton
The A662 towards Manchester. The lamppost carries a sign reminding drivers they are in a 30 mph zone and warning of the presence of speed cameras. Above that is a cycle sign although it isn't clear whether the cyclists are on the road or the pavement which is dangerously strewn with conkers and broken husksImage from the effects of an autumnal gust of wind on a horse chestnut tree. Behind these signs is another warning of trams crossing 100 yds ahead. On the opposite side of the road is a convenience store, a newsagents and a Chinese takeaway.

On football match days, this pub is very popular with fans of Manchester City, whose ground is nearby. The pub seems to be named after the Earls of Derby. It is not the only pub in the Manchester area with this name. Image
