Ashton New Road, Clayton
The A662 towards Manchester. The lamppost carries a sign reminding drivers they are in a 30 mph zone and warning of the presence of speed cameras. Above that is a cycle sign although it isn't clear whether the cyclists are on the road or the pavement which is dangerously strewn with conkers and broken husksImage from the effects of an autumnal gust of wind on a horse chestnut tree. Behind these signs is another warning of trams crossing 100 yds ahead. On the opposite side of the road is a convenience store, a newsagents and a Chinese takeaway.

Derby Arms, 575 - 577 Ashton New Road, Clayton
On football match days, this pub is very popular with fans of Manchester City, whose ground is nearby. The pub seems to be named after the Earls of Derby. It is not the only pub in the Manchester area with this name.

The pub is on the corner of Ashton New Road and Bank Street. Its sign is a variant of the coat of arms of the Earls of Derby (the Stanley family).

The former Derby Arms Image on the corner of Ashton New Road and Bank Street, Clayton. The pub has been converted into a group of shop including a takeaway, the "Spicy Mango". At this point in time the pub sign Image is still flying and the old name remains on the Bank Street side Image
