Cup and Ring stone
There are many rocks on the moors around Ilkley on which appear a design known as Cup and Ring - a small depression carved in the rock surrounded by a carved circle. Each decorated rock has several of these designs. They were carved around 1,500 BC in the Bronze Age. The meaning and purpose of the designs is unknown. This is one of three such rocks which were moved here in 1892 from Panorama Rocks, approximately 1 mile west. Visitors have to look closely to find this small exhibit, which is off the roadside and largely hidden.
