The plaque has the following wording: ERNIE WISE 1925 - 1999 This statue was commissioned by Morley Murals Committee, Sculptured by Melanie Wilks, financed & unveiled by Mrs Doreen Wiseman, Ernie's widow in 2010. It celebrates the association of Morley with a young entertainer called Ernest Wiseman who, in March 1938 at the age of 12 years, won a talent competition at the Pavilion Theatre, Morley. A professional career as a song and dance man under the stage name of Ernie Wise was launched. With stage partner Eric Morecambe they became one of Britain's all-time favourite entertainment duos.
