The remains of Horncastle Station
The site of Horncastle Station has been pretty well obliterated. All I could find is this gatepost.

Site of Horncastle station
View westward in Station Lane: terminus of the ex-GNR branch from Woodhall Junction, which closed finally 5/4/71, passenger services having ceased from 12/9/54 - a depressing scene?

Footbridge over the Horncastle Canal
The Horncastle Canal alongside ran from the River Witham up to Horncastle. It was a broad canal with locks capable of taking boats of 15 ft beam. Fully opened from 1802, it was never a great success and the last commercial traffic ceased in 1910. There is some interest in restoring the canal to full working order. Immediately north (left) of the footbridge, the River Bain enters from the left, whilst the canal bends right to reach the town centre.
