Frozen Hartsholme Park Lake, Lincoln
This photo was taken looking north from White Bridge on a cold frosty March morning in 1993. With global warming, how often will we see a scene like this in the future?

Hartsholme Park Lake Island
Hartsholme Country Park, Lincoln. My Lincoln-born wife's favourite place. Amazing that so much is maintained on such a low budget and small staff. The Park Rangers must be congratulated on their hard work. This Park includes Swanpool Lakes. Hartsholme supports a good Caravan and Camping area with along with a Café. My picture taken in the autumn is of the lake's island that I call Heron's Island as it often has Heron nesting high in its trees.

Hartsholme Lake
Autumnal colours on the island in Hartsholme Lake. The lake was constructed by the Lincoln Waterworks Company in 1848 as a water supply for Lincoln. In 1868 local industrialist Joseph Shuttleworth built Hartsholme Hall overlooking the Lake. The hall was pulled down in 1951 and the park became a country park in 1978.

White Bridge, Hartsholme Country Park, Lincoln
I love Hartsholme Park, but it is badly in need of some new investment. A recent survey described it as "well loved but not well looked after" (I might be paraphrasing a bit here, but that was the essence). The Rangers do a great job on a limited budget, but there are plans to make the area even better and more visitor friendly, funding permitting.
