Puma, 230 Sqn RAF, Waddington.
Static display at RAF Waddington Open Day 2 July 2005. The tiger livery on this aircraft is not intended to provide camouflage in a jungle environment! It is in fact one specially applied for meetings of an association of air force units that carry a tiger emblem in their squadron crests. The NATO Tiger Association was founded in 1959 at the instigation of 79 Tactical Fighter Squadron of the US Air Force. They invited 74 Sqn. (RAF) and Escadron de chasse 1/12 of the French Air Force to join them in a joint NATO collaboration, albeit an informal one, to encourage camaraderie and an exchange of ideas and experience between member air forces. France later withdrew from the NATO alliance but Tiger Meets proved so successful that they continue still, testimony to the bond that exists between aviators. Tiger! Tiger!
